Future Day 2023

Former participant turned trainee

Apprenticeship or study? Working in the fresh air or do you prefer the classic office job? Am I technically skilled and able to work in a team? The Future Day on April 27th at the Abwasserverband Braunschweig in Wendeburg helped to answer these and other questions on the way to later finding a job.

14 children and young people between the ages of 12 and 15 gained valuable insights into the association’s area of responsibility. The students, who attend schools in Braunschweig, Wolfenbüttel, Meinersen and Edemissen, first explored the company premises.

The group was expertly guided by two employees, one of whom took part in the Association’s Future Day a few years ago as a student. As a prospective mechatronics technician for agricultural and construction machinery in his second year of training, he was now able to report on his impressions and experiences in professional life. The employees answered questions about vocational school lessons, exam content and typical tasks in the workshop in detail and with a practical orientation.

During the guided tour

After that, a guided tour of the Steinhof sewage treatment plant was on the agenda. Here it became clear to everyone how complex it is to clean the waste water.

It was clear to all participants that the toilet is not a rubbish bin. A look into the so-called curiosity box was all the more surprising for her. This is where the finds are stored that, knowingly or unknowingly, end up in the sewage treatment plant via the sewage system: toys, clothing, tablet packaging, plastic bottles and much more.

Back at the association, there was pizza for everyone at the end. The conclusion of the children and young people was consistently positive.

“I am pleased that every year we are able to accompany students a little way on their way to finding a job. The great interest in spending the Future Day with us shows me that training in crafts and jobs in agriculture are still in demand,“ summarized Managing Director Dr. Franziska Gromadeki.
